The intern pool of 407,319 students in the National Internship Program, which has been successfully implemented by The Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Human Resources Office for the last three years, was made available to employers on April 13.

For the year 2023, the National Internship Program aims to offer internship opportunities to 300,000 young people, with 150,000 positions in the public sector and 150,000 in the private sector. Applications were received from 204 universities in Türkiye, 15 in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and 147 universities across 33 different countries.

Following the opening of the internship pool, especially public institutions showed a great interest to the program, and over 200,000 internship offers were made in the first month. More than 100,000 students who have accepted offers and confirmed their placements. Institutions operating in 81 provinces of Türkiye provided internship opportunities to 432 students from different disciplines at universities across the country, enabling students to do internships in provinces of their choice. The stipend for interns in public institutions has been set at the minimum wage for this year.

The National Internship Program, which provides internship opportunities based on the principles of equal opportunity, transparency, and merit, will remain accessible to employers until the end of 2023. In the program, which aims to enable young people to experience professional life during their studies, more than 6,000 employers from the public and private sectors continue to send internship offers rapidly.

Internship Training on YTNK.TV

All students within the internship pool are supported in their career journey with free training programs prepared by expert organizations. As a part of the Program, each student doing an internship in public or private sector organizations will receive certified training in occupational health and safety, as well as awareness, personal development, and communication training through YTNK.TV.

Merit-Based Evaluation Method

Just as in the previous years, every university student applying to the Program is evaluated based on their long-term achievements and performance from high school through the final year of undergraduate studies. For each student evaluated with innovative and objective methods, proficiency scores in the fields of “Academic/Vocational”, “Artistic/Social” and “Sportive” were calculated and added to the “Candidate Profiles”.

Candidate profiles are made available to employers through the internship pool, with identity and contact information kept confidential. This allowed employers to bid offers based on the merit-based evaluation scores, without accessing personal details.

Priority Internship Opportunities for Students Affected by the Earthquake

To support students affected by the earthquake, described as the disaster of the century, new adjustments have been implemented in the Program. More than 75,000 students from universities in the earthquake-affected regions or with permanent addresses in those regions have been granted priority access to internships in public institutions in their preferred locations. Within the first month, approximately 45,000 internship offers were extended to these students, and the number continues to grow.

Program Recognized Globally Again This Year

The Program, which has garnered international attention and been recognized as a model each year, was once again highlighted in the OECD 2023 Türkiye Economic Survey Report and the OECD Digital Government Review of Türkiye Report for its commitment to equal opportunity, transparent processes, and competence-based evaluation methods. The Program, which prepares our most valuable asset—our youth—for the workforce in alignment with the country's development vision and goals, will continue to be organized annually by the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Human Resources Office.
